Have you forgiven a Ford lately?
I'm with Lambert on the leftysphere's gushing over the late Gerald Ford.
Sweeping Nixon's crimes under the rug and hiring the worst people on earth to run the country (AKA "the Bush 41 and 43 administrations") aren't much of a legacy. Neither was his hapless battle against runaway inflation.
As Xan notes in comments to the linked item, "'Reconciliation' is always an easy sell."
I recall an old "60 Minutes" segment where a big-time Nazi had been found living in New York City for decades. They interviewed a bunch of locals who thought they should leave him be. One said "hasn't he suffered enough?" I guess living in a city with all those Jews and not being able to do anything about it must have been quite trying.
A man died. A sad day for people who loved him. Sorry if it's gauche to say, but I'm not one of them.
