OT,
Obama is up to his old tricks again.
The context is a large cast of characters made up of those positioned on the extreme right who are there purely as foils to make those positioned on the right (Obama ,Krugman, etc.) look reasonable and centrist.
The goal? To have another go at the jack-pot, social security and Medicare; Simson Style – cat food for the poor, mo money for the rich — all thanks to our tribal leader, always the lesser of two evils, our king and giver of death (sorry, not able to give life), Obama.
Romney’s part? Come out with an utterly outrageous position so far to the right and so warped as to “scare” the herd into the Obama pen and make shafting the elderly seem reasonable.
Paul Krugman’s part? Winner of the not so coveted Eric Schneiderman Decoy Award by Eves Smith of Naked Capitalism, Krugman’s article, “Things Fall Apart” according to Eves, “…[seeds] the idea that a deficit cutting deal would be a good move”. Those from sites like TPM or Hullabaloo with the ability to look outside of their tribal “allowed thoughts”, can read Smith’s article here.
If Eves Smith is correct, people like Atkins, on Hullabaloo, will have a healthy discussion in about a month or so as to why it is regrettable but absolutely necessary to cut and gut the social services. And that discussion, that total sell out of the soul of the Democratic party (or acquiescence to it) and everything and anything it stands for, is why Obama is by far the more effective evil (comparing Obama and Romney) and the true Vampire of this shameless theater.
This is why we fight the legitimization of "centrism."
Ostensibly left-leaning people need to recognize that all these policies proffered by both parties (and by rightwing "centrist" "indies") are cruelly to the right of their values and interests, period.
Man, what did I tell you? Atkins couldn't wait a month or two. He pounced on Yves for the audacity of criticizing the one, the only Paul Krugman.
And with a few notable exceptions, so did his peanut gallery.

For a little context, in spite of Atkins or his peanut gallery, Yves Smith has been largely full of Praise of Krugman for a long time. In the above article of the other day, she took him to task for priming the pump for a new round of attacks on the safety net.
Isn't that what journalists and political pundits are supposed to do? Take people to task?
Anyway, Eves Smith can withstand plenty of attacks from insignificant, irrelevant ass wipes such as Atkins. But what struck me was just how fast he responded with his usual ass-wipe water carrying irrelevance to her article.
Did I mention Atkins is an Ass Wipe?
Some would say, lèche-cul, although I think there is a subtle distinction; as in, ass-lick(er) may not be quite the same as an ass-wipe(er).
For the finer points, Atkins would have to be part of any definition and certainly an integral part of usage examples.
