I'd love to support a third party, but unless and until we make major changes in the way we hold and fund elections, they are NEVER going to be anything but spoilers at the national level.
And spoiler parties, like most other actions taken by those who prefer purity over common sense, only help Republicans.
Common sense hasn't suggested to you that almost no no worthwhile change happened when voters rallied behind Democrats in 2006 and 2008?
The amount of "impurity" accepted by supporters of the two-party system is rarely scrutinized, only the disturbing "purity" of those who seek something better than our continued shitty governance.
No, in 2006 and 2008 voters threw the bums out they did not "rally" behind Democrats.
The voters first chance to rally behind Democrats was in 2010, and had they done that, the last two years would've been very different. Instead, led by purity ponies with the patience of gnats, they stayed home and we got the last two years as a result. Because, as always, the actions taken by those who prefer purity over sense only help Republicans.
And the answer to getting something better than the current shitty governance is never going to be taking actions that perpetuate said governance-like voting for a third party.
At least not until there are major changes in the way we hold and fund elections.
That's such a brilliantly bogus explanation for the Democrats' crapulence in the wake of the 2006 and 2008 elections, I must applaud it as a landmark in the genre.

"Viable" means "I'll support you Greenies when you prove that you will go rocketing up from nothing to winning the Presidency in one election cycle."
