Are there any good "actual" leftist sites left out there?

Right now I have GlenG at Salon (soon to change to the Guardian), NakedC, and this one. FDL has gone soft, very soft. Most of them are barely disguised Obama-bot apologists/lesser-of-evil-no-matter-how-much-evil worshipers. Some of the FDL comment sections are still pretty good, but they are chipping away at them as best they can to be in time for the election.

Every time I find a new site that looks promising, it turns out to be yet another Hullabaloo or DKos.

It would be particularly great to find one for general news. You have to read Huff-Po with about 97 filters to get anywhere. You go cross eyed figuring out where the morsel of truth is.

I should have said "readable by leftists" or even "objective" since I'm not sure NakedC, for instance, would call itself leftist as much as realist or objectivist and I would agree that the two, objective/left, are not always the same.

realist or objectivist

Err...I think you meant to write "objective"?

There seems to have been a very broad-based crackdown on open discussion, it extends far beyond the left-blogosphere. The number of websites that now force commenters to use their Facebook accounts to sign in (now your friendly at-will employer can know how you plan to vote) is astounding.

It's big enough that I worry a lot about what might be coming down the pike.

Antiwar (though that's not really left or right) and Charles Davis are both good reads.

In more good news, OWS activities are not being made illegal:
