Chris Christie looks like one of the obese poor that Republicans so love to mock for not looking scrawny and starved the way poor people ought to look. In other words, to paraphrase Bilbo Baggins at his hundred-and-eleventh birthday party:
Chris Christie doesn't love half the rich half as much as he should like and he despises less than half of the poor half as much as they deserve.
Michael: Democrats are at least as brazen about mocking fat people, for not looking scrawny and fashionable the way creative class people ought to look.
I've never noticed any monopoly on weight-related assholery in any political group. They all fling it around like the dung it really is.
That includes Lefties, like the Indymedia denizens who think they're so witty for saying things like Wildlife disappears to make room for your fat ass! Because, yeah, they can tell from my fat ass that I live in a McMansion, eat fast food every night, and drive an SUV. Don't argue with them about it: they just know!
VL: Perhaps, but the Democrats haven't had their convention yet so I haven't seen their scrawny, creative spokespersons giving thin people a bad name for implying by their thinness a rebuke of those less thin.
And, anyway, I assumed that this thread had to do with the obese Chris Christie and the obtuse Republicans doing what they do best: lying just to keep in practice; just so they won't forget how.
Personally, I'll never forget the Republicans at their 2004 convention smugly displaying purple bandages on their sleek fat cheeks -- openly mocking the wounds received in actual war by my fellow Vietnam Veteran, John Kerry. Naturally, Kerry the Democrat reflexively bent over and passively took all the carefully crafted Republican calumny like an unavoidable enema. So I voted for Ralph Nader -- a second time.
The point of the 'toon is that "progressives," who fancy themselves empathetic and enlightened, have blinders about belittling targets of their hate for physical characteristics like obesity.
If I get the chance, I can post examples of some really vile weight-baiting that's been extremely popular with "progs" on Facebook in the days after Christie's speech.
Well, Michael, there's always Michelle Obama's courageous crusade to shame both fat people and their fat children. Woo hoo!
Of course, shaming doesn't create jobs, solve issues of hunger and food scarcity, make healthy food more affordable, amend lousy wages or the 40+ hour work week, call out the diet industry for its non-stop B.S., or anything like that. But hey! She helped get us some totally adorable PSAs on television and that's what really counts!
Yup, just what one wants in a leader -- a guy who can't control himself.
(He's not obese because of some medical problem; he is just a self-indulgent jerk.)
He is regularly rude and insulting to anyone who disagrees with him, so if he doesn't like being treated the same way, maybe he should consider how OTHER people feel when he yells at and insults them!
Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy applies his anger ONLY to Democrats, never to right-wingers or Republicans even tho they have been extreme in their insulting of (and lying about) Democrats.
2. It's beyond obvious how shitty the Republicans are and more plausible to me that some Democrats will cut the shit and practice their espoused values.
"...He is regularly rude and insulting to anyone who disagrees with him, so if he doesn't like being treated the same way..."
Sounds like most of the would-be "expert" pundit wannabees on Daily Kos. Or that jackass in Obama's cabinet who said that all of Dear Leader's Lefty detractors were "retards" and drug addicts.
Also, your argument is crap unless you seriously think that there's no such thing as a bona fide Leftist who, Dog Forbid, isn't built like a stick. If you insult Christie because he's fat, you're insulting any number of people who are also fat and who never did a damn thing to you.
Why is this so difficult for you to understand?
Of course, if you're one of those self-righteous types who thinks any fat person in your line of vision is some kind of personal insult against you, you're obviously doing exactly what you meant to do. By all means, continue.

Chris Christie can't control what goes into his mouth or comes out of his mouth.

You're achieving great things, VL! Congrats!

It's either:
1. The big checks from the Koch brothers
2. It's beyond obvious how shitty the Republicans are and more plausible to me that some Democrats will cut the shit and practice their espoused values.
