I would appreciate an response from you VL, regarding a "backup" comment site for GG's readers. Would you be willing to help create or moderate one? If someone else were to create one, would you assist in giving it visibility? If neither, could you at least give the issue itself some visibility? Please answer, the situation at the The Guardian is becoming critical. If neither, c

Your "brand" as one of the preeminent free speech advocates is being harmed by your continued association with the Guardian. Not sure exactly what legal rights your reserved with regard to the comment section practices, whether you employment contract is for a period or based on production, but a self-respecting free speech advocate might consider legal action to sever any continued contractual relationship with the Guardian in light of its practices which are nothing short of Orwellian.
What's happening is nothing short of scandalous. I'm hearing from many of your longest and most loyal readers and commenters that despite your assurances of a fix to current "moderation management" practices and your requests for patience in this regard, you are about to lose a whole slew of readers. Forever.
Short of a permanent fix, full explanation of the precise bases for banning or premoderation, full explanation of your relationship to enforcement mechanisms, and an "amnesty' and return of privileges and original screen names, I think you run the risk of permanently damaging your brand and standing as one of the preeminent free speech advocates working in journalism today. And that's a hard thing to burnish once it's been tarnished.

Excellent observation VL.
Thanks for keeping your eyes on reality so the diversionary sideshow isn't all there is to see.

IMHO
Argh. I'd have hit "preview" if it didn't make you enter a new capcha.
I don't have a handle on this Guardian comment issue.
It's easy to set up a site on blogger.com, tumblr.com, etc.
If you set one up, please let me know about it in comments here, and I'll take a look at it.
Thank you for responding. I'll post more on the subject shortly.
Ha ha, yeah, VL is all about an open commenting policy. He'd be perfect.
